I had the great pleasure of joining colleagues and friends in the peaceful Hungarian spa resort of Berekfürdő on 16th May 2015 for a day’s conference on Estate Planning.
Experts in their respective fields spoke about the likely consequences of the EU Succession Regulation coming into effect on 17th August 2015, the taxation of trusts (a new concept in Hungary introduced by the new Civil Code (Act No. V of 2013)), aspects of employment law in relation to Estate Planning, the regulation of civil-law foundations, and the function of notaries in assisting clients who are looking to manage their affairs for their own futures and the futures of their families. I gave an overview of Estate Planning from an English perspective.
Congratulations to Dr. István Mándoki, notary of Kecskemét on organising and hosting such an interesting and practical conference. My personal thanks go to Gergely Kovács for his remarkable feat of interpreting my presentation into Hungarian with very little advance warning.
